“Is there a Republican Primary in Virginia this year?”
Someone asked me this recently, and I’ve seen the same question pop up in several social media groups.
The answer: It depends.
Republican Statewide Elections
The statewide Republican ticket has already been decided:
Winsome Earle-Sears – Gubernatorial Candidate
John Reid – Lt. Governor Candidate
Jason Miyares – Attorney General Candidate
Since the nominees for these top offices are set, there is no statewide Republican Primary this year.
Down-ballot Races
Local races are a different matter.
Depending on where you live, there may be a Republican Primary for down-ballot races in your area.
To check if there’s a local Republican Primary in your jurisdiction, use this tool from the Virginia Department of Elections: Polling Place and Ballot Information Lookup Tool
Just enter your address, and the tool will show:
Whether you have a Republican Primary
Where to vote
Who’s on your ballot
Contact information for your local registrar
Other voting details
In Frederick County, where I live, there is a local Republican Primary for the Board of Supervisors.
When you enter your information into the tool, it will display a screen like the example from my locality.
That’s quite informative of you to post this kind of helpful information. Good luck!
