After the Civil War, communities across America began honoring our fallen soldiers by placing flowers on their graves. Soon, it became a national holiday to remind every generation that freedom isn't free.

It requires sacrifice.

It’s earned.

Paid for by the blood of men and women who believed in this country, its ideals, and its people, who were worth dying for.

As you enjoy time with your family and friends today, I hope you’ll pause to remember those heroes. Say their names. Tell their stories. Teach your kids about the greatness of America and the sacrifices that made it possible.
